the fact that I’m on the blog again that is.  I’m probably only on here because I feel sorry for the poor folks who check in every day

I have various reasons for not blogging all summer, laziness is probably the biggest, followed closely by procrastination.  

Anyway we’re on the last few days of the school holidays now so here is a brief overview of our summer.

We headed off right on the last day of school and had a wonderful holiday in Scotland for the third year in a row.  We shared part of our holiday this year with our  friends and it was a blessing to have company from home as well as some time on our own.

Sleeping in the tent went extremely well and I was in good form the whole time.

As predicted the pregnancy has flown in during the rest of the summer and at this stage we have just under 2 weeks to go or who knows how long really….

No idea where the blog goes after that but if you have been following faithfully  you can find me on facebook for more frequent updates and holiday photos etc. 

On our return home in the middle of July we had to make tracks in the kitchen – the black-currants needed harvested and turned into jam.  We also set to a course of baking for the kids (or rather for the mum to work out what they can be left to make on their own in the kitchen).

No 1 son has become the king of the bread-maker which is a great help.  He’s also mastered Granola with a little help from his brother

No 1 daughter bought this book on her holidays with some of her money and we’ve made loads of the recipes here and a few she can do on her own – Results!!

She also got stuck into piano lessons and cross stitch and is really quite keen, we’ll see how that all goes……

Harvesting the veggies, blanching and freezing was mostly done at the beginning of August but those Courgettes, they just keep on coming…

Some jobs are just better than others…..

Looking back over the summer holidays, there was undoubtedly loads more I would like to have accomplished especially outdoors but with the weather not having been so favourable we had to change some of our activities.  

Over the next few weeks I’m planning to make more jam (Rhubarb & Ginger), perhaps get some of those outside jobs done before the winter days set in, redecorate the study (not me personally!!)  oh and  yes, have a baby ………….

The question is  ”So where Do you put all your books when you’re decorating the study”??????

Yes we’re off in the morning to what has become our annual camping trip to Scotland for a couple of weeks.  If you weren’t around last year you can search in the archives, we expect the holiday to go along much the same lines as it did last year, with just a few exceptions.

1.  We’re all a year older and wiser.

2.  We’re taking company for the first week though there won’t be any competition, what with them being in a motor home and us in a tent

3.  A certain member of our party is hitting 30 weeks in her pregnancy this week and is hoping the air bed is going to be kind, so very kind to her.

4.  I’ll probably up-date on face-book as I’m just getting way too lazy for this blogging

I’ve just realised it was the beginning of January since I wrote a substantial post about books.  This is probably because my pregnancy brain hasn’t been reading as much over the last few months and my pregnancy body has kept me from the second hand shops

I noticed over at Kim’s the “What’s on your nightstand?” logo and thought that might be fun.  I also thought it would make me update my reading page.

So here’s what’s on my Nightstand – (is it just a UK thing to call it the bed-side-table?).

Ladies of the Reformation by JH Alexander is my Reading Roundabout book for the month of June – I’ve only just started it as I received it early.

Daily Readings from all 4 Gospels by JC Ryle – compiled by Robert Sheehan is what I’m currently using for my devotions.  I picked this book up about a month ago at a second hand book store for 50p.  A friend had been encouraging me to read Ryle’s  commentaries on the gospels for quite some time and I didn’t feel like going through a whole book in one go.   This morning and evening devotional book has been excellent – it has proved to me that Ryle certainly is worth reading.  This book was an absolute steal as it’s in a totally unused condition.

Our ladies conference was last Saturday and we had the priviledge not only of hearing some very thought provoking messages from Pastor Smith (more on that later) but also of having a bookstall there.  I’d been eyeing Women’s Ministry in the local church up for some time now and knew if it was there I would purchase – I’m only just started this book by Susan Hunt and Ligon Duncan but so far I’m glad I bought it.

Nancy Leigh DeMoss’s Surrender is also on there as the ladies Bible Study group who meet once a month are almost completed studying this book.  Excellent for use in group study this book has opened up the many different aspects of surrendering your life completely to Christ.  A very challenging book which could also be used for private study.

To-night we went to visit Logos Hope in Belfast.  

What a great opportunity to get onboard such a big ship.

It’s free to board the ship, browse the extensive range of books, hear all about the work of Logos and if you sign up on the Captain’s computer you can even help yourself to some free books!!

While there were a lot of Christian books that were completely unknown to me – those I was familiar with were being sold at very good prices.  That is to say that if you haven’t visited them yet, you really ought to even if you are on a tight budget as the book shop is bigger than you will be able to imagine.

A good night had by all.

The ship leaves Pollock Dock on Monday so if you want to visit you need to fit it in tomorrow!!

We’ve all heard it before “when you get them all up a bit, then you can get a job”, “when you get them all to school – then you can get a job”.

Ever feel like saying – I have a full-time job.

Thank you very much.

No I don’t have a pension scheme, or 6 weeks holiday a year but I do have a job that’s guaranteed even if there is a credit crunch……..

We were using up the bars from the Easter Eggs

The cake was just coming out of the oven as we finished our evening meal so I served it without the topping, warm with Ice cream, it really was delicious.

Next evening we had the leftovers cold – again with no topping. 

Well worth a try!
