Works for Me, if it works for you…..

April 30, 2008

So the story is:

I had an accident with my steamer which could be read as I burnt the back side clean out of it :-(

I’m only sorry I didn’t take pictures before I disposed of my lovely wedding present.

Instead of replacing it I’m planning on putting the money  into a slow cooker.

I’m not really sure which to go for, I was wondering if anyone could help?

I want large capacity so I’m thinking of something like this.

I’ve also noticed this type where you can cook two things simultaneously, is this a good feature?

If you could let me know which type you have and the best features it has it might help me get over the steamer incident!

Oh and while you’re here, incase I purchase soon, let me know what your best Slow Cooker recipe is that way there are no excuses.

My tip to-day is don’t just replace broken kitchenware think of how you can put the money into something else you’ve always wanted :-)

Head over to Shannon for more Works for Me Wednesday tips.

Rhubarb and Orange Slump

April 29, 2008

As recommended by my friend Janus who also supplied the Rhubarb :-)

Rhubarb and Orange Slump is a great alternative to Rhubarb Crumble which is a favourite in our house.

If you come under the category of “not much of a pastry maker” you may also appreciate this recipe.

“A Slump is a New England pudding made with seasonal fruit”.

We’ll certainly be making this again.

Thanks Janus,

Mummymac.

God moves in mysterious ways …..

April 28, 2008

This post is part of Rebecca’s Prayer Petition theme for the month of April.

As Kim said earlier in the month, sometimes prayer requests can be quite personal and therefore not always appropriate for blog material, however I have come across some dear saints in the blogging world and would surely covet your prayers at a transitional period of our lives here in Northern Ireland.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So for those of you who don’t know me personally, things are changing quite a bit for us these days.
The short version of events goes like this…
Having spent the first year of our married life in JP’s “home” church we realised that this church wasn’t our “home”.  The Lord led us to a church where the things most surely believed among us were the things we found in God’s Word.
We moved to our current church in 1997 and became members in 1998, giving thanks to God for leading us to a people who showed forth the fruit of the spirit and worshipped God in his appointed way.
Only those who have been starved of Biblical teaching can appreciate what it meant to be hearing reformed doctrine.  It was a relief to be feeding on the meat of the word.
We continued on serving in any way we felt able and growing under the ministry of the Pastor, who lead us at that time.
In 2003 the church (believing in a plurality of elders) commenced a process of examination of men from within the congregation to come along-side our Pastor as fellow elder.  As a result of this process my husband was called to the eldership in a non-vocational capacity and has served in this way ever since.
Later that year our full-time Pastor accepted God’s call to a church in the States where he continues to labour to-day.
For the past 5 years JP has been labouring under the ministry while holding down a full-time job to support our family.
A few months ago our  church voted to call him to the full-time ministry and we find ourselves entering a whole new area of service.
As a young couple coming to a new church, so thankful for the teaching and pastoring therein we never believed the plans God had for us in this place.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Friends I/we would value your prayers as JP starts this new role (next week) in a full-time capacity.

Please pray that God would use him in mighty ways for His Glory.

Please pray that I would be a help meet that would benefit his ministry.

Please pray for our church members during this period of adjustment.

Please pray specifically for us as a family as we re-adjust our lives to this new area of full time service.

“Strength for to-day and bright hope for tomorrow”,

Elaine

Going Green…

April 26, 2008

well kind off…..

I’m joining Kim in green photos as there is just so much green going on round here :-)

contrary to the weather reports we are having a lovely Saturday.  So it’s outside for the gardeners….

There is lots of planting going on to-day.

This little seedling was just planted last Saturday - any guesses as to what it is?

This cactus has a plenty of new growth despite my non-green fingers.

A very tired spade :-)

For other green photos check out Anna Carson Photography

Hope I haven’t broken any of the rules :-)

Have a green weekend.

Mummymac.

Little Links

April 25, 2008

**Sorry folks the links are working now, thanks friends!**

The only encouraging part of this article is some of the  comments, regardless if you have children or are an internet user yourself (that’s you then), it’s certainly an eye-opener to parenting skills.   It’s a long article but if like me you only read the first few paragraphs you’ll get the gist.

Just because I’ve never heard this phrase before doesn’t mean I won’t, this post made me smile.

If you are cultured (or you think you are) and you’re one of my local readers you may be interested in these free tickets.  You can only order 4 per house hold which means no I don’t have any for you   :-)    Let me know if you book any.

If you enjoyed Facing the Giants you ought to watch  this trailer for Fireproof which comes out later on in the year.  I wonder if JQ will shed a tear at this one (private  joke!)   ;-)

I made these earlier in the week and will be making them again in the near future. Delicious.  Let me know if you try them.

I eventually registered on Google Reader so I’m now spending a lot less time clicking and flicking through blogs and I’m also wondering why I didn’t do this months ago.  If you read any number of blogs on a daily basis you really should register on google reader, simply add the blogs you read to your subscription page and it does all the “I wonder if they have posted anything new” work for you.  Simply check your google reader home page and it will tell you which blogs have posted.  I know for some of you this is obvious, but for others it just takes a little longer   :-)

Lastly, for those of you who are interested in the weather where I am - Yes it’s raining in NI again.

Have a nice weekend.

Musical Monday’s

April 21, 2008

N over at 3foldcord has started a mini-series of posting some music on a Monday.  I’ve decided to join her as I never have inspiration or time  to post much of any worth on a Monday.

A recent interest in Piano duets lead me to this.

I never normally like it when original music is changed, but I think this is a great version.

Excellent pianists - don’t think I’ll bother ordering the sheet music :roll:

Enjoy -

Lessons in grooming.

April 18, 2008

So while giving Princessmac (5) the standard plait this morning I got this:

Mummy  Why did Daddy say (in church) “not one hair of your head shall be lost”, when loads of mine come out every day?

I’m filing this under - Glad you were listening :-)
