Well it looks like my bloggy break is over, tomorrow night (my time) I will announce the winner of the give-away. If you haven’t entered you may still have time……

I have noticed a few of the blogs I read are having a theme for November of being Thankful. Now unfortunately here in Northern Ireland we don’t recognize “Thanksgiving” for some unknown reason (if anyone knows the reason I’d be glad to hear) but I think it is most important to be thankful for God’s mercies at all times.
Now I may not post every day on being Thankful but I’m going to make this my theme for November too.
To-day I’m being thankful for where I am. I suppose we all like where we live or we would probably move on. I have lived in Northern Ireland all my life, it’s all I’ve ever known except for the odd holiday here and there.
It wasn’t until I read some of the comments in my last post that I realised I ought to be thankful for where I live.
There seems to be so many who would love to at least visit our little country if only to trace their ancestors
I am thankful for Northern Ireland, where I call home. I am thankful for the little village we live in and the warm and happy home we enjoy.
I am thankful that we can worship God in His appointed way without fear of persecution.
What are you thankful for to-day?Rebecca is rounding up all the thankful posts at her blog Rebecca Writes.
Mummymac.

I couldn’t find your email address on here so I’ll just leave a comment (sorry). You did not win the quilting class for my give away but I am making a great offer, you can check my blog out for it. http://highergroundtoday.blogspot.com
p.s. we are also reformed folks!

Good Morning, Mummymac,
There is something deep in my soul that yearns for Ireland. I’ve never been there, but it is my heritage (Ireland on my grandfather’s side, Wales on my grandmother’s).
Just looking at your pictures made something leap in my heart. I do hope I can come and visit Ireland someday! I’d love to visit your village and have a cup of tea with you!
It’s good to be thankful for the places God has placed us!

I followed your links and a couple in the wiki article about your village. How DO you pronounce Ahoghill?
And do you speak gaelic? I saw that the village website is in English and gaelic.

I must say (re the pronunciation of Ahoghill) that is sounds absolutely nothing like it looks. I would have great difficulty in spelling it phonetically too!! Pronouncing Ahoghill entails making a noise at the back of your throat that you wouldn’t normally want to make!!
|My husband tells me it’s like a German “gh”.
We normally have some “fun” with our American visitors as they master it.
I don’t speak gaelic, it wouldn’t be taught much in the protestant community. The only native Gaelic speaking areas are in the North West Donegal and South West Ireland.
Call for tea anytime!

Actually would any of the locals like to explain to Kim how to pronounce Ahoghill?
