Ok folks, so I saw Jamie Oliver do this on TV last night and just thought now there’s a Works-For-Me-Wednesday Tip.![]()
Thing is I haven’t actually tried it but I do know it worked-for-him
If you need to do some piping and you just can’t be bother assembling your piping bag or perhaps can’t be bothered with washing it - just grab a plastic sandwich bag and put your “stuff” into one corner of it. Then clip the end of the bag with a pair of scissors to whatever size you want. Give the bag a twist to take the air out and pipe away.
I thought it was a great idea and so much easier than trying to wash those cloth piping bags.
Perhaps one day - this will work for me.
There are loads more tips here.

Sounds like a good idea!

I’ve done it often — without having seen Mr. Oliver do it — and I can attest to the fact that it does work. Nice to know there is someone out here sharing such tips, however. Thanks.

Since I’m too cheap to BUY the cloth piping bags, this is all I’ve ever done! I can assure you it works - just don’t make the hole too big!
I even stick my tips in the bag before putting the icing in…that way I can create flowers or leaves.
Great tip!

Great tip - washing the piping bag is the job I hate the most when baking. Will definitely try this next time.

Actually, if you have any cooking parchment on hand, just rolling it into a cone and dropping a piping tip down into it works, as well. Not quite as common an item around the house as plastic bags, but one more option, especially if you dislike washing the piping bags.

Thanks ladies - Now it seems kind of obvious, but I had just never thought of doing it before.

Lots of things seem obvious after they’ve been discovered.
